Movember – United States
This year the Short Hills Surgery Center helped to raise funds for the Movember Effect. Since its humble beginnings in Melbourne Australia, Movember has grown to become a truly global movement inspiring more than 1.1 Million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas to participate with formal campaigns in Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada, the UK, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, South Africa and Ireland. The funds raised in the US support prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men. To learn more about Movember or to donate to this worthy cause please visit them online at www.movember.com.
2011 Holiday Food Drive
For the past 6 years the Short Hills Surgery Center has sponsored a holiday food drive to support those who are less fortunate. In the true spirit of the holiday season, physicians and staff helped by donating bags of non-perishable food items. This year the drive will benefit Action Against Hunger. To learn more about this interfaith food pantry located in Morristown please visit their website at www.actionagainsthunger.com.
Coat Drive
Physicians and employees at the Center also took part in a clothing drive sponsored by St. Benedicts Prepatory School in Newark. Warm jackets, clothes, socks and other new or gently used articles of warm clothing were donated to benefit individuals in the Newark area who needed them.
St. Jude’s Recycled Card Program
Ever wonder what to do with holiday and greeting cards that you have received once the holiday season is over? Well staff at the Center has found the perfect solution. Cards are collected and sent to children at St. Jude’s Ranch where they are turned into new cards for the next season. Operated by Kids’ Corp a program for the children at St. Jude’s Ranch to learn entrepreneurship skills, the children make new cards by removing the front of the card and attach a new back resulting in a beautiful new card. Additionally, the benefit is two-fold – customers receive “green” holiday and greeting cards and the children receive payment for their work and learn the benefits and importance of “going green”.
