Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Paul M. Figlia is a strong advocate of breast reconstruction happening as soon after a mastectomy as possible. “Breast cancer is life-threatening and frightening,” he says. “I’m convinced that when a mastectomy patient wakes up after surgery with a new breast that the road to both her physical and emotional recovery is advanced.”
A graduate of Rutgers Medical School with advanced training in Plastic Surgery at JFK Medical Center in Edison, the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and Washington (D.C.) Hospital Center, Dr. Figlia believes that just about “anything” can be done at the Short Hills Surgery Center, from skin care to breast reconstruction. “It’s an environment where everyone is healthy. And it is spa-like rather than antiseptic, which is particularly important to my patients.” Dr. Figlia sees patients at his office in West Orange.
