Dr. Robert J. Fieldman, M.D. 21st Century Tonsillectomies
ENT specialist Dr. Robert Fieldman has been using a new technology for tonsillectomy procedures at the Center called a Coblator. “With Coblation technology, we shave (instead of cut) the tonsil away, leaving a thin membrane capsule with no tonsil tissue left,” says Dr. Fieldman. “The end result is that our patients’ throats are much less sore after surgery, and I feel the risk of post operative bleeding will decline because of the capsule membrane that’s left behind.”
Dr. Fieldman received his degree from Tulane Medical Schools and served his ENT residency at Cornell. But as much as he believes in advancing medical science through the use of new technology, he’s convinced that some of the “old ways” are still very effective treatments. In fact, he recommends ice cream as a post-operative therapy for kids after tonsillectomies!
